New Payment System Needs You to Smile to Pay for your KFC

A live-ness detection algorithm

Forgot your cash? Don’t worry… you just need to smile. Alipay has introduced a new way to pay for your lunch. The new technology needs two seconds of facial screening with the help of a 3D camera. A “live-ness detection algorithm” helps confirm the identity of the person paying. They need to enter their mobile phone number to help guard against fraud.

Alipay notes that the algorithm can see shadows and other features to test if the person paying is actually a person, and not a photo or video used to trick the payment system.  Alipay confirms they’re looking for consumers that are  “young, tech savvy consumers who are keen to embrace new tastes and innovations,” according to Reuters.

The facial payment system is available at K Pro which is a healthier version of KFC. K Pro sells salads, sandwiches and juices.
