Giant of Comedy

He was brilliant, diverse, and a giant of comedy. Lewis’ career spanned nearly his entire life. He stared in, wrote and directed the original Nutty Professor. He served as longtime host of TV’s most famous telethon. Lewis was in more than 50 movies including Artists and Models to Martin Scorsese’s The King of Comedy.  Tag teaming with Dean Martin, they would work on 16 films together in seven years.

Lewis was born into entertainment. His father was a Catskills entertainer, his mother, a pianist. He was born Joseph Levitch on March 16, 1926 in Newark NJ. His idol was Charlie Chaplin.
