That’s it for Neil Peart: Rush Drummer Hangs Up Sticks

I personally know a lot of drummers in my circle of music people. And, whether you’re a Rush fan or not, there’s one thing that every drummer (or human for that matter) can agree on – Neil Peart is an amazing drummer.

Peart joined Rush in their early days just prior to the band’s first tour, and has stuck around… for over 40 years.  And what a machine he is, definitely an icon.

In a recent interview with Drumhead Magazine, Peart said, “”Lately, [my five-year-old daughter] Olivia has been introducing me to new friends at school as ‘My dad — he’s a retired drummer.’ True to say — funny to hear. And it does not pain me to realize that, like all athletes, there comes a time to… take yourself out of the game. I would rather set it aside then face the predicament described in our song ‘Losing It’ (‘Sadder still to watch it die, than never to have known it’).”

Famous talk show extraordinaire, George Stroumboulopoulos shared this today:

Our friend Neil Peart from RUSH has retired from music. Here’s the conversation from that time he made a house call youtu.be/o3tjbAayg7E

So, I guess that’s it. No word yet on if Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson are calling it quits too, we’ll definitely keep you updated. All the best, Mr. Peart. Enjoy your retirement!
