Stop Trying to Make the Mean Girls Soundtrack Happen

Blondie – Rip Her to Shreds The doll Debbie Henry appeared twice on the soundtrack. The other song was One Way or Another . Rip Her to Shreds was released in late 1977 and was the first UK single for Blondie on Chrysails Records. It didn’t chart, but the B-sides, In the Flesh and X Offender were moderately successful.  Fitting lead track for the movie, the song is about how gossip columns effect people’s lives.

Barry White – Love’s Theme The popular instrumental piece recorded by Barry White’s Love Unlimited Orchestra dropped in 1973 as an A-side single. It is one of the few instrumental pieces to hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S. Love’s Theme peaked at the number three position in 1974. Along with Mean Girls, White’s track also appeared in Despicable Me 3 and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.

Peaches – Operate  The song was originally recorded as part of a double limited vinyl A-side with Shake Yer Dix. It was to promote the release of her second studio album, Fatherfucker. Operate also made an appearence in the 2005 comedy,  Waiting…

Pink – God is a DJ  From Pink’s 2003 album, Try This,  God is a DJ was the second single. It was about “letting go, loving life and living it to the fullest” The chorus is the metaphorical phrase, “If God/Life is a dance floor/Love is a rhythm/ You are the music”. Another fitting track for the Mean Girls soundtrack.

Billie Idol – Dancing with Myself Reason 243 why Mean Girls was so epic: Billy Idol is on the soundtrack. Even better? It’s my favourite Idol track. Dancing with Myself, the 1980 classic, was featured on Idol’s last group album, Kiss Me Deadly. The booty shaking retro hit was also featured on the Can’t Buy Me Love soundtrack (which is where I first heard it).

And now, for a special October 3rd (I mean October 4th) bonus, lets leave you with classic moments from Mean Girls.
