6 Rock Stars You Didn’t Know Were Cat People

Rock Stars and their Cats. We would never think they would have a softer side. We dug up precious pictures of loud and rough performers playing with kitties.  Purrrfection.

“One day while John was recording, the studio receptionist brought in a litter of kittens. John immediately knew what I was thinking and said, “No, we can’t, we’re traveling too much.” I picked up a black one and put him over my shoulder. When I came back into the recording room with him, John rolled his eyes and said, “Now you’ve done it! Now you’ve done it!” I had a moment of wondering what I’d done, when he came over, started petting him, and said, “Well I guess we have to have a cat” At the end of the day when we were leaving the studio, John asked if there were any left. We went back to get the only kitten that remained- a white one that no one wanted because she was so loud. John christened them Major and Minor. He loved those cats. They reminded him of his days with Aunt Mimi (whom he playfully referred to as the “Cat Woman”).” –May Pang

“Morrissey and I have been friends for a long time, probably around 20 years. He’s an animal lover and was desperate to meet her when I first got her. It was love at first sight, I didn’t even get a look in. I can’t remember who came up with the idea of sitting her on his head, But because it’s Morrissey, I’ll give the credit to him.” – Jake Walters

After Billy Corgan lost an 11-year old cat named Sammi, he adopted Angelface and Diamond Baby. This kitties, a calico and a tortoiseshell, were hand-picked by the Smashing Pumpkins frontman since both kittens suffered health problems.  Corgan wanted to give them the lap of luxury.

Once, Iggy Pop saved a cat.  It was on the set of the movie Blood Orange , while filming on the Spanish Island of Ibiza. The film director and writer, Toby Tobias noted,  “He was such a gentleman and a consummate professional with a deadly sense of humour,”

In Bjork’s video for Triumph for a Heart, a housecat played the role of the husband. One of the scenes, where the cat is in a suit reading a newspaper, has become an internet sensation, mostly used for the ‘I Should Buy A….’ meme.

Well, when I walked in she saw me and she took off her apron,
And she grabbed her goin’-home hat
She bought a ticket with her tips. Now we’re curled up on the sofa,
Me and her and that mean-eyed cat. – Johnny Cash, “Mean Eyed Cat”
