According to voice actor Harry Shearer’s twitter account, the long-time Springfield resident was fired. Shearer has been with The Simpsons since 1989.
TMZ reported last week that Shearer was the holdout who hadn’t reached an agreement with producers to do two more seasons. Looks like it had to do with back-end profits and merchandising. This isn’t the first time the voice actors protested against authority. In 2011, the actors demanded a slice of the back-end money. A battle which they lost. Sherer was the leader in that stampede.
With the season finale set for Sunday, the show recently confirmed that they’ll be sticking around for another two years. This will take them up to 28 years on-air and 625 episodes.
From James L. Brooks’ lawyer: “show will go on, Harry will not be part of it, wish him the best.”. (1/2)

This because I wanted what we’ve always had: the freedom to do other work. Of course, I wish him the very best. (2/2)
