No phone charger? That’s OK. You can charge your phone on your lamp, bedside table or desk. That’s going to be the norm as Swedish furniture maker Ikea will soon launch furniture that will charge mobile devices.
It uses QI technology, the world’s leading method of transferring electrical power without wires. More than 80 smartphones on the market today have the technology, which allows you to charge your device just be resting the phone on a QI-enabled pad, with no need for wires.
“Our belief is that mobile phones are vital parts to people’s lives at home and their desire to stay connected, and Qi addresses an unmet need to keep devices powered,” Ikea spokesman Bjorn Block said.
The Home Spot line of Furniture will be available in Europe and North America next month, with a global roll-out soon after.
