Ballad of the Mighty Marr and Gallagher

“He just arrived with two guitars and a bag of effects pedals. And I have to say, he’s unbelievable. He’s way up there, on another level to the rest of us. The result is a burst of energy that helped make ‘…Mighty I’ one of the best songs I’ve ever written,” said the Oasis legend on teaming up with The Smiths’ Johnny Marr.

What came out of that demo session was the single Ballad of the Mighty I.

It wasn’t too long after that recording session when Noel joined Marr on stage  at O2 Academy Brixton on November 23, where they performed a cover of Iggy Pop’s Lust For Life” and “How Soon Is Now.” Noel revealed to NME, he was hungover during the performance.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been so f—ing hungover onstage in all my life,” he said. “I was getting a back rub from his wife about two minutes before going onstage. If somebody had come up to me and said ‘You don’t have to do this’ I would have been, like, ‘F—ing, yes’. It was my wife’s birthday the night before and we’d smashed the arse out of it. I forgot I was playing with him. I promised him because he played on my record. He said ‘Get up and do ‘How Soon Is Now” and then he drops another song on me on the day. But I did it because I’m a f—ing trooper.”

The tune featuring Marr, which saw its video drop yesterday, will be featured on Gallagher’s  Chasing Yesterday, his second solo studio album. Here’s the full track listing:
