UPDATE: It appears we scared off His Purpleness. Latest report indicates the pop-up concert may be canceled for tomorrow night.
It all started with a cryptic tweet ear Tuesday morning from the icon’s all-female live band.
“4th day of November, we need a purple high: OTNOROT CALLING…”.
“OTNOROT” is “Toronto” backwards. Soon enough, rumours of Prince doing a surprise show in one of his favourite cities, was trending with fans speculating if the surprise show is a-go.
So, is he? Could it be true?
Before the end of rush hour, the rumours were confirmed. It was reported that a drum kit with Prince’s infamous symbol on it was being set up on stage and the venue was putting up crowd-control fesses outside the Yonge and Victoria Street hall. This is only days after Prince’s much-anticipated, extended seven minute set on SNL with 3rdEyeGirl which got long time fans ablaze on how the 56-year old can still rock a show.
Prince has performed several times in Toronto, and owned a home here from 2001-2006.
