If you have a little trouble finding the port-hole with your USB stick, you’ll love the new design.
USB Type-C was announced in December, but its final version has just been revealed. Based on the specs, you might say the slogan for it could be Olympics-esque: Stronger, Faster, Slimmer.
The new connector will be much smaller than its older, clunkier version. Similar in size to Apple’s Lightning and the micro USB 2.0 connectors, the next-generation USB will be small enough to work with both computers and mobile devices.
Type-C will also support SuperSpeed USB at 10GB per second, which is already in use with the USB 3.1 platform. Basically, it’s so fast that the bottleneck becomes your hard drive. And on top of that, it will also have an improved capacity for charging electronic devices.
But best of all, you’ll no longer have to fiddle to get the connector to fit into the port. Finally, USB will have a universal and reversible design that fits right-side up and upside down.
