You know when you get a song trapped in your head and it just loops on and on and on and onandonandonandon until you want to gouge out your cochlea with a spoon? That’s called an earworm and they can be very, very annoying–even debilitating in their most extreme forms.
Everyone has their own neurological biases towards what songs get stuck in their brains. Researchers at Goldsmith College in the UK have been studying the phenomenon and have set up a website for people to report what’s been looping in their head. Earwurm.com also keeps track of things–although if you’re prone to such brain loops, you might want to stay away from it.
So what are the worst songs for earworms? Men’s Health says its these five songs:
#1 The Lion Sleeps Tonight by The Tokens
#2 Who Let The Dogs Out by Baha Men
#3 Mambo No. 5 by Lou Bega
#4 Macarena by Los del Rio
#5 Diamonds by Rihanna
I’ve been having trouble with Lorde’s “Royals” lately, although it seems to have been supplanted by “Rocket Man” by Elton John again. You?
