According to Billboard, Beats Music, the premium streaming music service (whatever “premium” means in this context is up for discussion) run by record mogul Jimmy Iovine and developed by Trent Reznor and the people behind Beats by Dre headphones, will make its debut January 21.
Based out of Santa Monica, Beats will have to compete with Songza, Rdio, Slacker, Rhapsody, Sony Music Unlimited, Xbox Music, Deezer, iTunes Radio, Pandora and tons of others.
Beats Music has a deal with AT&T to provide some kind of marketing and distribution–most likely packages tied to their handsets.
Pricing will be $9.99 USD/month for a single subscription or $14.99 for a family bundle from AT&T, which will allow for five people to access the service from up to ten devices.
What about Canada, you ask? Doubtful. Everything points to a US-only debut.
Billboard has also acquired a beta version of the service. They’ve already given a test drive to see how it works.
