A History of Music Used to Wake Up NASA Astronauts

Now this is an interesting playlist, direct from a guy from NASA’s history division.  It’s a list of all the songs used by Mission Control to wake up astronauts going all the way back to Gemini 6.

Here are some highlights:

  1. “Hello Dolly”/Jack Jones
  2. “The Lonely Bull”/Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass
  3. “My Favourite Things”/Cast of The Sound of Music
  4. “On a Clear Day”/Robert Goulet
  5. “City of New Orleans”/John Denver
  6. “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face”/Roberta Flack
  7. “Paralyzed”/The Legendary Stardust Cowboy
  8. “Eli’s Coming/Three Dog Night
  9. “A Boy Named Sue”/Johnny Cash
  10. “Rocket Man”/Elton John

If you ask me, NASA needs a music curator.  Now that I’m working at Songza, I’m gonna be SO all over this.
