Weezer Covers Toto’s “Rosanna” … and “Africa”

The rains are officially blessed. Months long Twitter campaign for band Weezer to cover “Africa” finally comes true, proving stranger things can, in fact, happen.

If there was any doubt that Netflix has the power to influence mainstream media, perhaps there is a little less now.

Why Netflix?

Netflix original series Stranger Things and more specifically the show’s soundtrack, prompted a Twitter campaign aimed at convincing the band Weezer to cover Toto‘s hit song “Africa”.  The song is played in the background of this scene from Season 1:

The @weezerafrica account was created by a young fan of Stranger Things who is also a Weezer fan.  The band and lead singer Rivers Cuomo were trolled online for months; however, the campaign backfired a bit when Weezer trolled back.  Instead of “Africa”, the band released a cover of Toto’s “Rosanna” last week:

 

Not Quite the One…

A fabulous cover, but not the right song.  The online prodding continued and on Tuesday, Weezer delivered.  The rains are now officially blessed:
