20/20 Hindsight

I’ve been fascinated by radio since my grandmother gave me a Lloyds transistor radio for my sixth birthday. I didn’t ask for it nor did my parents tell my grandmother that she should get one for me. Yet if it wasn’t for this thing, who knows what I’d be doing for a living today? I certainly wouldn’t be co-hosting a podcast called Geeks and Beats.

Lloyds transistor radio

On this week’s show, Michael and I geek out a bit about old-school radio, specifically The Big 8 CKLW in Windsor/Detroit. As radio stations go, few achieved this kind of legendary status. A station like this could never, ever work today. You’ll hear why.

  • We talk about the demise of the Columbia Records and Tapes Club.

And now, this.

I noticed something with Apple music that I don’t think has been mentioned on the show, thought you guys might want to know about it.
I figured out a new way to track your apple music downloads. Go to your phone settings, then general, then useage, then manage storage, then music. It’ll show you all the albums you’ve downloaded and it gives you the option to delete. All in six easy steps haha. Go a few more steps and you can managed by albums or byindividual songs All of this can be done without even opening the music app. So there it is. Hope this is something useful for you guys. Have a good one

In case you haven’t heard, Geeks&Beats can now be access via Nightflight, a website inspired by the USA Networks all-night show of the same name from the 80s. You’d better give it a look especially if, um, you’re of a certain age. You know who you are.

For more–and we have a crack team of writers adding content to the website every day–go here. The G&B Swag Store is open 24/7 for your convenience.  Here’s where you can subscribe to everything we do. You can listen to us on the radio every week. (Yes, there’s an actual G&B Radio Network.)

We’d also love it if you left us a message at (323) 319-NERD. And if you’re not already a subscriber to the podcast through iTunes, well, you’re a bad, mean person. Repair your karma by doing it now.

Are you into audio production? We’re always looking for jingles, stagers, memes or anything else we can use in producing the show.

PS: Please like our Facebook page. And if you’re in the a “liking” mood, go here, here and here , too. Dammit, we suck at “likes.” We need more. Please?
