Star Wars at Comic-Con Nobody Expected

It began with J.J. AbramsKathleen Kennedy and Lawrence Kasdan taking their seats at the table. Questions started almost immediately, but J.J. answered the most pressing question by telling the audience that there would be no new footage or trailer today. Instead the three introduced a behind the scenes reel that some consider better than a new trailer.

Then the cast started to file in. First was Chewbacca himself, Peter Mayhew followed by John Boyega (Finn), Daisy Ridley (Rey) and Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron). After a series of questions, the villains stormed the stage. Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Domnhall Gleeson (General Hux), and Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma) took their seats while photos of their characters where shown on the giant screen above them. There was talk about the light vs. the dark side of the films and then Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) walked on stage to thunderous applause. She called the experience of being back on a Star Wars set like “…a flashback…”.

Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) was the next to take the stage. He started talking about some of the early days and the fans of the first film. He told how each fan has their own story saying,

It’s very moving to me, sometimes it’s very hard to absorb the impact you’ve had.

He then admitted that he took the Star Wars trivia contest and failed.

Then Harrison Ford (Han Solo) walked out on stage. You may remember, Harrison crashed his plane earlier this year and he had to miss Disney’s Star Wars Weekends, which he had been scheduled to attend. The audience went crazy to see Han Solo on stage. He was right away asked how he was. He answered, “I’m fine, I’m great!” When asked about his foot he simply said. “Well, I just walked here…”

The panel ended with J.J. inviting the audience to a live concert where they heard the San Diego Symphony play selections from the classic Star Wars soundtrack. Everyone in attendance was given a pass for the concert and then received a lightsabre when they arrived. If you’d like to see photos from the concert, please click here.
