You Will Have Your Musical Mid-life Crisis at Age…

wait for it…

42!

Yup. If you find yourself at 42 years of age and listening to more of today’s pop hits like Rihanna and Beyoncé instead of yesterday’s classic rock hits by CCR and Eric Clapton, you have reached your musical mid-life crisis. Spotify has identified 42 as the age when plenty of it users rediscover the joys of current pop music as their tastes indeed mature over time.

  • I’m 51 now so bit ahead of the Hitchhikers Guide magic number. Thank goodness as I’d hate to think of myself as having crossed the floor so radically as to put Beyoncé near the top of my last. I was a Columbia House member and still have thousands of vinyl. I had wildly diverse tastes (everything except country) but centered on hard rock.
My favorite artists used to be: Pink Floyd, Streetheart, Prism, Harlequin, AC/DC, Def Leppard Judas Priest,… I totally lost interest in music during the 90’s until Linkin Park woke me up with Meteora. Then I went to a concert after a 20 year lapse (Judas Priest / Anthrax) and had a blast.
Now I go to almost every concert I can and have started buying music again. My current 4-5 star music is a bit heavier. Bullet for my valentine, Metallica, avenged sevenfold, breaking Benjamin, disturbed, Rammstein, Shinedown, 3 days grace, with Pink Floyd still in the #1 spot.
Whatever my taste is evolving from or to, I’m a dedicated audiophile and glad I’m still rockin’ !!!
