They get repetitive. Boring, annoying and frustrating. The pre-roll ads that show up every time you want to watch a vintage Duran Duran video or the latest viral cat video funny on the net’s number one online  video website, Youtube. Now the Google-owned website wants to get rid of those short commercials. For a price.

“There are going to be cases where people are going to say ‘I don’t want to see the ads or I want to have a different kind of experience’,” stated Susan Wojcicki, a Google senior vice president who heads the YouTube business. at the Code/Mobile technology conference in Half Moon Bay, California late on Monday. She confirmed that the plan is a-go while not giving too many details, including divulging how much a subscription would cost.

In May 2013, Youtube created a pilot program that allowed Youtuber’s to change consumers a subscription fee to access a particular  “channel” of videos. Wojcicki visions a broader subscription service, where consumers would pay to access an ad-free version of Youtube’s video vault.

“We’re early in that process. But if you look at media over time, most of them have both ads and subscription,”  Wojcicki revealed.
